Feral - Unpublished

Heres another game I worked on that never saw the light of day, and it is called Feral. I have a thing for Werewolves, not sure why, may have something to do with the game Knightlore and American Werewolf in London which i both loved growing up, but I generally find them more interesting than Vampires and other mythological creatures.

I was working on this at Lost Toys and it nearly went into production, but we had to shut the studio before a publishing deal could be finalised. It's a 3rd person action adventure where the player controls a character that has 3 forms, human, 'werewolf' and wolf that they can transform between. Each form has unique abilities, the human form utilises armed combat, and can rally humans around them to their cause, the werewolf has great platforming abilities scaling walls and jumping great distances between rooftops, and the wolf has great sensory abilities and can howl to summon a wolf pack to their aid. The game was intended to be set over different time periods, so starting in medieval times, and progressing through different locations and time periods to modern day. There's some images of the modern day Tokyo location in my artwork section if you're interested. I have always had a thing about werewolves, which I think started when I saw American Werewolf in London. That scene on the moors just really stuck in my conciousness. There was also a definite Terry Pratchet influence, although the humour doesn't really come across that much in the footage. Knightlore was another influence for me, it was a game I loved growing up. Some features of the game would have been:

  • Ragdoll combat system where characters could be picked up and swung around as weapons

  • Climbing system that allowed the werewolf to navigate up walls and over rooftops

  • Sensory system where scent trails could be followed and peoples auras visualised

  • Call to Arms system where wolf packs and angry mobs could be lead by the player
